God Speaks - Hear The Word of God

The Wisdom of the Proverbs:

Proverbs 25:9-10 (NLT)

When arguing with your neighbor, don't betray another person's secret.

Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation.

The Encouragement of the Psalms:

Psalm 80:7 (NLT)

Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven's Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.

The Hope of the Old Testament:

Jeremiah 15:1 (NLT)

Then the LORD said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me pleading for these people, I wouldn't help them. Away with them! Get them out of my sight!

The Gospel Message:

1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (NLT)

You yourselves are our witnesses—and so is God—that we were devout and honest and faultless toward all of you believers.

And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children.

We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory.

Observation:

Today's scriptures passages speak to me about the value of relationships. The Proverbs speaks of the damage that gossip will do to relationships, and how it will ruin a good reputation.

The Old Testament passage and the New Testament passages speak about the importance of transparency, and the impact it has on our lives. I remember hearing various preachers say when being transparent, "Confession is good for my soul but may be bad for my reputation."

"Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable. Be honest and transparent anyway."

Key Word Commentary: Thoughts on Every Chapter of the Bible.

Today I want to close our reading and reflection on the Word of God with the prayer of the Apostle Paul for the church at Thessalonica. I will pray it for you, and I ask that you pray it for me.

Prayer:

1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 (NLT)

And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.

May he, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you stand before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy people. Amen.

--

1 Samuel 3:10 (NLT)
10  And the LORD came and called as before, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel replied, "Speak, your servant is listening."
