Title: What Are Your Eyes Seeing and Ears Hearing?
Text:
1 Peter 3:12-13 (ESV)
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
13 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good?
Observation:
I had a thought on my mind when I woke up, and then while reading an article after eating lunch a few days ago, I read the passage that is our text for today.
I immediately went to my computer to capture that thought, and to see what was in my heart behind this thought. This is what I found as I search the meaning of what my eyes had seen, and my heart felt. This is what I found as I begin to look into this passage, and this topic.
Psalm 34:12-16 (ESV)
12 What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
What is in your heart? Where did you get it from? What is the source of what comes out of your mouth? The Bible says this:
Luke 6:45 (NLT)
45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
This is sound advice that we should soberly consider.
Proverbs 2:1-2 (NLT)
1 My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
Here is a life lesson for all of God's people.
Proverbs 3:1-3 (NLT)
1 My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart.
2 If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying.
3 Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.
Prayer:
Father, help us to guard what our eyes see, and what our ears hear; because they both go into our hearts, and what comes out of our mouths comes from what we allow in our hearts.
Father, keep us as holy as You can; keep us in the Word, and on our knees. O, for more faith to trust in God each day, and all the day long. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
