Title: Why Are We So Reluctant to Talk to One Another?

Matthew 18:15 (ESV)
15 "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
Observation:
I recently heard a very powerful and penetrating sermon at our church about The Jesus Way of Forgiveness. I have been meditating on this for several weeks, and I have had some of those conversations.
I am ready to share what I have learned and experienced. It's not as hard as you imagine, and I survive to talk about it. If we are to love one another, we need to learn how to forgive one another. The pastor pointed out to us this Old Testament passage that is frequently quoted in the New Testament.
Leviticus 19:17-18 (ESV)
17 "You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him.
18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.
We often quote the passage in verse eighteen that says, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself". However, the people who say this seldom hold a private conversation with their neighbor about their sins against you or anyone else; and, all sins are against God.
Notice that in verse seventeen in talks about a conversation with your neighbor, "You shall reason frankly with your neighbor". We tend to avoid having those conversations.
This talking to one another should begin with those who are members of the Body of Christ. In our focal passage; Matthew 18; Jesus is talking about the sins of a brother or sister in Christ.
The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthian Church said this about those outside the church.
1 Corinthians 5:12-13 (ESV)
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?
13 God judges those outside. "Purge the evil person from among you."
We may need to reexamine our frequently heard assertion that we should not judge others.
Prayer:
Father, I praise and thank You for the teaching of Jesus about the Jesus Way of Forgiveness.
Father, help us to not be reluctant to hold those private conversation with a brother or sister in Christ for whom we are carrying a hurt or a complaint.
Father, prepare our heart to have that conversation; gives us a tender heart, and the attitude of wanting to ask for forgiveness, and to grant forgiveness.
Father, help us to trust in You to provide us with the wisdom, and the power to say those words of love, "I forgive you", and give us the grace to accept forgiveness when it is offered to us. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
