Daily Prayer_April 28, 2011

The Word for wisdom:

Proverbs 28:9 (MSG)
God has no use for the prayers of the people who won't listen to him.

The Word for inspiration:

Psalm 119:81-88 (MSG)
⁸¹ I'm homesick—longing for your salvation; I'm waiting for your word of hope. ⁸² My eyes grow heavy watching for some sign of your promise; how long must I wait for your comfort? ⁸³ There's smoke in my eyes—they burn and water, but I keep a steady gaze on the instructions you post. ⁸⁴ How long do I have to put up with all this? How long till you haul my tormentors into court? ⁸⁵ The arrogant godless try to throw me off track, ignorant as they are of God and his ways. ⁸⁶ Everything you command is a sure thing, but they harass me with lies. Help! ⁸⁷ They've pushed and pushed—they never let up— but I haven't relaxed my grip on your counsel. ⁸⁸ In your great love revive me so I can alertly obey your every word.

The Word for encouragement:

Revelation 3:7-8 (HCSB)
⁷ "Write to the angel of the church in Philadelphia: "The Holy One, the True One, the One who has the key of David, who opens and no one will close, and closes and no one opens says: ⁸ I know your works. Because you have limited strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name, look, I have placed before you an open door that no one is able to close.

My observation:

There is no place that I would rather be in life than to be in the center of the will of God for my life. This is the theme that I hear beating on the door of my heart this morning. At the heart of being in the center of God's will and purpose for my life is the word of God.

The Proverb reminds me that the keeping of the word of God is essential to God hearing and answering my prayer.  The Psalm reminds me that I can rely upon the word of God to comfort me in my season of trouble. Finally, the passage from Revelation reminds me that God blesses his people that keep his word. Although our strength may be weak, if we are faithful to the word of God, he will be faithful to provide the strength that we need to endure whatever may come against us in this world.

My prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I am so grateful and so comforted by the promises of the word of God for those who believe in Jesus, and for those who obey the word of God. Father, keep me faithful to the end.
