The Word for wisdom:
Proverbs 1:20 (HCSB)
Wisdom calls out in the street; she raises her voice in the public squares.
Proverbs 1:23 (HCSB)
If you respond to my warning, then I will pour out my spirit on you and teach you my words.
The Word for inspiration:
Psalm 27:4-5 (HCSB)
4 I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking ⌊Him⌋ in His temple. 5 For He will conceal me in His shelter in the day of adversity; He will hide me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high on a rock.
The Word for encouragement:
2 Corinthians 1:18-20 (ESV)
18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. 20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
My observation:
Today we will conclude our focus on Paul's encouragement to the members of the church at Corinth on God and suffering. Remember the words that Paul wrote as we begin this study.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (ESV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
All of us need comfort, and thank God, we have a Father in heaven who is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. We can find comfort through prayer, as we wrote about yesterday.
2 Corinthians 1:11 (ESV)
You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.
Finally, in today's focal passage, Paul says that we can be comforted in claiming the promises of the Word of God. The promises of God are not fickle. If God says it, that settles it. There is a blessing in store for those who believe the Word, receive Christ the Savior, and stand on the promises of the Word.
My prayer:
Father God, my dear Father, I thank you for the precious gift of being in Christ, and the comfort that you provide to your believing children. Father, I thank you for the comfort that we receive through prayer, and for the comfort that comes in claiming the promises of the Word of God. Father, I thank you that when the storms of trouble come into my life that I can stand firm in Christ, and claim the promises of your Word.
