Daily Prayer_January 20, 2011

The Word for wisdom:

Proverbs 20:4 (HCSB)
The slacker does not plow during planting season; at harvest time he looks, and there is nothing.

The Word for inspiration:

Psalm 147:12-14 (HCSB)
12 Exalt the Lord, Jerusalem; praise your God, Zion! 13 For He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your children within you. 14 He endows your territory with prosperity; He satisfies you with the finest wheat.

The Word for encouragement:

Luke 11:3 (HCSB)
Give us each day our daily bread.

My observation:

One of the things I noticed about this pattern of prayer that Jesus taught his disciples is the inclusion of "us" and not "me". One of the most important and potent resources we have as a believer is to have other members of the family of God praying for us.

The people of God should never go wanting for the basic physical necessities of life. We have a Father in heaven who loves us supremely, and who cares for us dearly.

If we are lacking could it be a symptom of prayerlessness? How long has it been since you had a conversation with the Father? Are you spending time daily with him, and asking him to meet your needs each day? Is the Father in heaven your source?

Why worry when you can pray? Why trust in other sources when you can trust wholly in the Lord? God is able to help you, and God is willing to help you.

Matthew 6:31-34 (HCSB)
31 So don't worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' 32 For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. 34 Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

My prayer:

Father, I am so glad that you are bigger than any need or problem that I will ever encounter in my life. Lord, I am so blessed to know that you love and care for your children each day. Father, I pray that you will keep me close to you for you know that the flesh is weak and tends to stray.

Father, I delight to declare my dependence upon you. I look to you alone as the source of my daily bread, and not just for me, but for all of your beloved children. Father, I thank you that there is not a moment that we are not loved, kept and cared for by your all seeing eyes, compassionate heart, and powerful and tender hands.
