The Wisdom of the Proverbs:
Proverbs 27:12-13 (NLT)
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
Get security from someone who guarantees a stranger's debt. Get a deposit if he does it for foreigners.
The Encouragement of the Psalms:
Psalm 109:26 (NLT)
Help me, O LORD my God! Save me because of your unfailing love.
Psalm 109:30 (NLT)
But I will give repeated thanks to the LORD, praising him to everyone.
The Hope of the Old Testament:
Ezekiel 23:1-4 (NLT)
This message came to me from the LORD:
"Son of man, once there were two sisters who were daughters of the same mother.
They became prostitutes in Egypt. Even as young girls, they allowed men to fondle their breasts.
The older girl was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. I married them, and they bore me sons and daughters. I am speaking of Samaria and Jerusalem, for Oholah is Samaria and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
The Gospel Message:
Hebrews 10:1 (NLT)
The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.
Observation:
What can we learn from today's reading of the Old Testament passage? To get the context you have to read the entire chapter. However, the following verse spoke to my heart.
Ezekiel 23:4 (NLT)
The older girl was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. I married them, and they bore me sons and daughters. I am speaking of Samaria and Jerusalem, for Oholah is Samaria and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
The younger sister, Jerusalem followed the older sister Samaria. The older sister was wicked, and the results were a disaster. What I see is the pervasive influence others can have on our lives.

Prayer:
Father God, help us to be more like You, and not like the people around us who are not Your children, and some who are but are not living in obedience to Your will and way. Father, may we learn to look to and depend upon You for all of our needs.
1 Samuel 3:10 (NLT)
10 And the LORD came and called as before, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel replied, "Speak, your servant is listening."
