The Word of God for wisdom:

Proverbs 12:27-28 (NLT)
27
Lazy people don't even cook the game they catch, but the diligent make use of everything they find.
28 The way of the godly leads to life; that path does not lead to death.

The Word of God for inspiration:

Psalm 80:19 (ESV)
19 Restore us, O LORD God of hosts! Let your face shine, that we may be saved!

The Word of God for encouragement:

Luke 14:7-11 (ESV)
7
Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them,
8
"When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him,
9
and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give your place to this person,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.
10
But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, 'Friend, move up higher.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you.
11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

My observation:

Today I am getting an early start because it is a travel day for me. I have an early morning flight to join my family in Anchorage, Alaska for several weeks. We look forward to a celebration service for the home going of my wife at Grandview, which was our home church for thirty five years.

The point of the parable that Jesus told in our selected passage from the gospel of Luke is in this verse.

Luke 14:11 (ESV)
11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

The verse reminds me of something that Jesus said earlier.

Luke 13:30 (ESV)
30 And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."

My prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I am so grateful that when we demonstrate humility in our life we are following the example of our Savior. Father, help me to be more like Jesus every day. Amen.

Philippians 2:5-8 (ESV)
5
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
6
who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7
but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:3 (ESV)
3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

1 Timothy 4:4-5 (HCSB)
4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
5 since it is sanctified by the word of God and by prayer.
